Welcome to Secret Breakfast / An exclusive newsletter, the best place to start your day with Poo Milkshakes and Okra Water, just to make your life a scary movie in time for Halloween

Hi there!
Would you ever open a Home Kitchen Business? It seems that Angeles County is expected to see a boom in home-cooked meal businesses with the implementation of a special program starting November 1st. This initiative allows people to legally sell food prepared in their home kitchens after obtaining a permit and passing inspections.
Thatās huge. Consider the potential it could unlock. Picture preparing nutritious meals for seniors in the community or providing healthy lunches and snacks for children returning from school while their parents are at work (perhaps I'm sharing a bit too much of my personal aspirations hereā¦).
Think about true Haitian caterers cooking real food from their roots. Or just think you can finally bite your neighborās fried chicken that fills the air on Friday afternoons.
We already know thereās no paradise in mass sushi-pizza-Chinese expensive delivery, donāt we?

ONE ā¤ QUOTE

ā¦ Trimagasi is the first cellmate of the main character of the food-horror-dystopian movie The Platform. Its main ingredients? āLow comedy, political allegory, left-field twists, crowd-pleasing surprises, spectacular violence, sadism, altruism, and yet more spectacular violence, all wrapped up in a high-concept horror filmā. If you read this newsletter, you probably belong to those high levels.

COOK YOUR FOODIE HORROR MOVIE NIGHT

Halloweenās coming on October 31st, and one of my daughters is organizing a horror movie night with some girlfriends. Or at least thatās what she says to me.
Then, letās think about a Foodie Horror Movie Night. What films would you pick? Here are five for āsoftā viewers like me.

The Platform (2019)
Itās a stark social commentary set in a vertical prison where food is delivered via a descending platform. Winner at Toronto International Film Festival, praised for its metaphorical take on capitalism and social inequality.

Raw (2016)

Delicatessen (1991)

The Stuff (1985)

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

recipe). Won Academy Award for Best Art Direction and features people crazy enough like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

The Menu (2022)
This one is particularly notable because it's one of the few horror films that authentically captures the world of haute cuisine while using it as a vehicle for horror. Its commentary on the relationship between artist and audience and the toxicity of food culture makes it especially relevant to contemporary discussions about fine dining and class. Then you can cook the filmās amuse-bouche(ā
recipe), House Smoked Chicken Thigh Al Pastor (ā
recipe), or the iconic Cheeseburger (ā
recipe).
