Kate Moss – Hollywood Diet

Hi there!

I had a few hours to unplug far away from the city.

I thought I could use some time to work on a few projects and also improve this newsletter. But you know what? I spent that time watching the garden grass that grew too much, studying the (too many) Japanese alphabets, firing some BBQ, and cooking the super tender mini-artichokes the farmer sold me at a price that is still a mystery to me.

I’m in a place where consumer prices including rent are about 40% lower than the city I live in. Yes, the internet connection is scattered, public transport does not exist, the closest market is about 20 km, the best schools are… I don’t know where they are.

But I can feel there’s some value here, far from the noise pollution, Hollywood diets, and urban nonsense.

Maybe we’re not made to live in a single place all year long like we’re not meant to cook meat always with the same old brine.

Asako Yuzuki, Butter. Reading it right now, and I have already encountered four recipes: Harusame Salad (Japanese Vermicelli Salad) also known as bansanu; Ochazuke; Siu Mai, and Takikomi Gohan (Japanese Mixed Rice).

The Rise Of The Bee Bandits
Oliver Milman / Noema

The foundational story of the modern American West is riven with tales of animals slaughtered or plundered: bison gunned down by the million, wolves cast out, horses purloined, cattle rustled. Today, a rather different flavor of animal crime has become ascendent — the theft of bees.

In the age of social media and the mini-computers we all carry around with us at all times, it’s easy to look at online reviews for a restaurant before we decide to try it.

Last week's most clicked link was the Green Goddess Salad. And that's all for today.
