Welcome to Secret Breakfast / An exclusive newsletter, the best place to start your day dodging bullets, freezing cocktails, and decluttering the kitchen

Donald Trump, probably eating bullets now

Hi there!

As you know, food is politics. Nevertheless, it’s better not to talk about politics when you run a food newsletter.

But, what the hell: somebody shot Donald Trump (and killed a poor innocent).

My perverse mind couldn’t stop thinking: if anyone shot me, and I survived, what would I eat after that? Would I even be hungry?

I’ve always wanted to eat after a loss and never lost my appetite during difficult times. But a near-death experience is something completely different.

Donald Trump’s weird eating habits suggest the guy probably skipped a few meals and then went straight to junk food. I’m not that sure, either.

PS: last week I skipped Secret Breakfast and spent time writing the 5-day daily newsletter about Finland called Kippis, only for temporary subscribers. I had fun and a few great feedbacks.

★★★★☆

This new cocktail recipe book, Freezer Door Cocktails, features 75 recipes that can be made directly in the liquor bottle and stored in the freezer, so you can enjoy a perfectly chilled cocktail whenever you want one. I think that’s the most summery idea I’ve found until now. You can start with these: Piña Colada Martini, Margarita, and Lemon Drop (★recipes)

We’ve all peeked into the cart next to ours in the checkout line and tried to piece together a person’s life from its contents. How you grocery shop says a lot about who you are. Grocery runs have changed a lot in recent years. Prices have soared and packages have shrunk.
