Hi there!

I’m late today, sorry about that.

I have two kitchen concerns about summer: cooking for parties and cooking for my daughters who are spending too many meals at home since the school has closed.

On this issue, let’s talk about parties.

M. Scott Peck. Don’t know if that’s true at all. But sometimes I just need to hear that there are no problems around.

PARTY LIKE AN OG

Getting Ready. Entering the Space. How to Converse. Party Etiquette. Hot Topics. Drinking. Houseguests. When the Party’s Over. The New York Times wrote this very funny - I don’t know if they noticed - Everything Guide to Partying (Without Regrets), asking around 43 “highly sociable people, from Ivy Getty to Rufus Wainwright”.

Listen to American socialite, Patricia Altschul: «I once had a guest who had too much to drink. He said goodbye, and I thought he had left. The next morning, the butler discovered him passed out on the dog bed!».

Unbelievable, Patricia, my dear! That’s exactly what happens every single time in my two-room apartment, too: the next day my maidservant always finds someone passed out in the dog bed or in the fish bowl.

Patricia’s formidable and quite progressive manners should be taught at school: «My mother had an expression: “The queen leaves before the footman.” Meaning: Do not be the last person to leave a party!».

That reminded me of a memorable sketch with Alec Baldwin, during the show 30 Rocks, who is surprised by a co-worker wearing a tux at 6 PM. Why? «What am I, a farmer?», he explains.

Who’s the original gangster here?

You Must Be Nuts

★★★☆☆

Being craveable yet wholesome. You solve this food puzzle and you’ll have two inevitable results: a 100% healthy life and a lot of time spent buying the right groceries or cooking them. That’s it. Nevertheless, knowing more of that craveable/wholesome equation can make you a better cook, a better parent and a better human. Jess Damuck’s book is on the right path, and the recipes aren’t bad at all: Orange-Scented Tahini French Toast, Charred Cabbage with Mushroom Butter, Roasted Cauliflower Flatbreads (★recipe, not hers), Oat Bars with Rhubarb Ginger Jam and more.

They call it heatflation. Extreme weather events are wreaking havoc on supply chains, causing food prices to skyrocket. But don't be fooled by empty shelves: price hikes are often driven by fear of future shortages, not actual crop failures.
